CareRingmedicine reminder

CareRing user guide

How to use CareRing, step by step: adding medicines, voice reminders, bells, history and family sharing.

CareRing is a medicine reminder that tells you out loud when it is time for your medicine. There is no sign-up, and while you use it on your own, your medicines and records stay on your phone.

1. The first time you open it

  1. The Today screen opens. If you have no medicines yet, it says “No medicines today”.
  2. When “A few settings keep your reminders on time” appears, tap Allow notifications and then the other settings in order.
  3. To do it later, tap Later. You can turn them on any time from the Reminder check screen.

2. Adding a medicine

  1. Tap Add medicine at the bottom of Today.
  2. Enter the Medicine name. You can add notes such as the dose below it (optional).
  3. Choose the Type: Pill, Eye drops, Cream, Inhaler, Injection or Other. Pills are announced with “It’s time to take your medicine”, other types with “It’s time to use your medicine”.
  4. Set the Reminder times. For more than one a day, tap Add another time.
  5. Choose How often:
    • Every day
    • Every N days (for example every other day)
    • On and off cycle (for example 21 days on, 7 days off)
    • As needed (no reminders; record only when you take it)
  6. Tap Save. The reminders are set right away.

3. How reminders ring

CareRing reminds you in two steps.

  1. Voice: at the time you set, a voice says “It’s time to take your medicine” in your phone’s language.
  2. Bell: if you have not checked it off after the voice, a bell rings, and rings a few more times at set intervals until you do.

If your phone is locked, the bell fills the lock screen. Tap I took it on the notification and the remaining bells are cancelled.

Reminder style and bell sound

When you add or edit a medicine, choose How to remind:

  • Voice and bell: the default.
  • Vibrate only: no sound, just vibration.
  • Screen only (no sound or vibration): it only appears on the screen.

Pick a Bell sound from Chime, Marimba, Bright bell and Soft tones, and listen first. Bell after sets how many minutes after the voice the bell starts.

Your privacy

The lock screen and notifications show only the type of medicine (Pill, Eye drops and so on), never its name, so no one glancing at your phone can tell what you take.

4. Checking off doses on Today

  • Medicines are grouped into Morning, Midday, Evening and Bedtime.
  • Tap All taken to check off a whole group at once. If you skipped some, tap Some skipped and choose them.
  • Tapped by mistake? Tap Undo.
  • Taking it at a different time just today? Use Change time for today. From tomorrow the usual time returns.

5. Looking back at your history

Tap the calendar button at the top right to open History. It shows, day by day, what you took, skipped or did not confirm. Doses checked from the lock screen are marked “Recorded on the lock screen”.

In My medicines (the medicine button at the top right), Export my records saves all your records as a CSV file, handy for your doctor.

6. Editing, pausing and deleting

Tap a medicine in My medicines to:

  • Edit: change times, how often, or how to remind.
  • Pause: for a break from a medicine. Tap Resume to bring the reminders back.
  • Delete: removes it from Today and from the reminders. Past records stay.

7. If a reminder does not ring

Tap the bell button at the top right to open Reminder check. Any phone setting that is off shows as “Off”; tap Open settings to go straight to it. How to set it shows where to find each setting on Samsung Galaxy, other Android phones and iPhone.

On Android these settings are most often off:

  • Notifications: when off, neither the voice nor the bell rings.
  • Exact time: when off, reminders can be up to an hour late.
  • Full screen on the lock screen: when off, the bell comes as a small notification instead of filling the screen.
  • Unrestricted battery use: when restricted, reminders can be late after the phone has been idle for a long time.

On iPhone, turn on Notifications and Lock screen alarms (iOS 26 or later). Without lock screen alarms the bell may not ring in silent mode or Focus.

8. Family sharing (optional)

Share your records with family, for example so a son or daughter can see that a parent took their medicine. If you never turn it on, nothing goes to a server.

Family sharing is part of CareRing Plus. Try it free for 30 days; one subscription in the group covers everyone. If it ends, reminders and the records on your phone stay as they are.

  1. Tap the people button at the top right to open Family.
  2. Sign in with Continue with Google. On iPhone you can also use Continue with Apple, and on Android phones in Korea Continue with Kakao.
  3. One person taps Create a family group, then Make an invite code and sends the code. A code works once, within 24 hours.
  4. Everyone else enters it under Have an invite code? and taps Join.
  5. Under Show my records, choose who may see your records. At first they see only records from now on; sharing older records is a separate choice.

Good to know:

  • Medicine names and notes are not sent by default. A name is shown only to the people you turn on Show medicine names too for.
  • In Family alerts, choose “When family check a dose” and “When a dose goes unconfirmed” (no check two hours after the scheduled time), and set Quiet hours. Alerts never say who it is or which medicine.
  • You can Stop showing, Leave the group or Delete account at any time.

Android phones and iPhones can join the same family group.

9. Changing phones

While you use CareRing on your own, everything stays on that phone. Before you switch, save your records with Export my records. If you use family sharing, sign in with the same account on the new phone and your family group carries over.
